CIBORIUS is certified to ISO 45001.
ISO 45001 is the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It does not describe individual protective measures but the control loop by which a company finds, assesses and reduces hazards and then checks the effect. The standard replaced the earlier OHSAS 18001 in 2018.
Nationwide · ISO 45001 · Audited processes
What the standard requires
- Hazard assessment – systematic, documented and kept up to date
- Participation of employees – the people who do the work have to take part in the assessment; this is one of the central changes from OHSAS 18001
- Responsibility of management – occupational safety is a leadership task, not the job of a staff unit
- Measurable objectives and regular review – indicators, internal audits, management review
- Handling of incidents – reporting, investigation, elimination of causes
The standard follows the common High Level Structure and can therefore be run together with ISO 9001 in a single management system.
What that means specifically in a security service
The hazards in the guarding industry are of their own kind and are easily underestimated:
- Lone working – patrol and mobile duty with no help immediately at hand
- Night and shift work – the strain of displaced sleeping hours
- Conflict situations – refusal of entry, checks on people, assaults
- Routes and outdoor areas – lighting, weather, trip and fall hazards during patrols
- Construction sites and industrial plants – hazards originating in the guarded site itself
A certified system forces the company to have a defined answer for every one of these situations – from the lone-worker alarm device to the site-specific duty briefing.
Relationship to the German employers’ liability insurance AMS
ISO 45001 is an internationally certifiable standard. In parallel, the German statutory accident insurance institutions assess the occupational safety management systems (AMS) of their member companies. Both routes pursue the same goal and complement one another; CIBORIUS takes both.
